Background Information

The "Senioren Complex Nickerie" has been successfully completed and is now operational. This project was driven by the need to provide quality housing and care for seniors in Nickerie, a region where existing facilities were already at full capacity. The complex aims to address the significant demand for elderly care by offering a safe and comfortable living environment with necessary care and oversight.

Located on land provided by the WIN Group—a coalition of the Sari Foundation, the Friends of Nickerie Foundation, and the Welfare Institute Nickerie—the complex was developed with substantial financial support from the Staatsolie Foundation for Community Development (SF). The project also received contributions from the Ministry of Regional Development and the District Commissioner of Nickerie, who provided construction drawings, budgeting, permits, and labor support.

The facility is designed to accommodate seniors who can no longer live independently, those facing housing issues, and those needing temporary refuge. Additionally, the complex includes provisions for women in distress, offering a broader scope of care and support. With this new complex, Nickerie now has a dedicated space to support its elderly population, contributing significantly to community welfare and addressing a critical need for enhanced elderly care in the region.
